MARK STANEK, DA

Dr. Mark Stanek serves as Associate Professor of Music at Corban University in Salem, OR, where he teaches courses in music history, film music, conducting, ear training, and guitar. He also directs the Corban University Chamber Orchestra and is an active orchestra adjudicator, clinician, and guest conductor throughout the state. Recent guest conducting engagements include the Willamette Valley Symphony and the Salem Philharmonia.

Prior to coming to Oregon, he lived in Indiana where he taught at Indiana University East, Anderson University, and Taylor University. He was the Music Director of the East Central Indiana Chamber Orchestra, the Kokomo Symphony Youth Orchestra, and the Master’s Youth Orchestra in Indianapolis. He also served as Interim Music Director of the Taylor University and Anderson University Symphonies. In addition, Stanek guest conducted and adjudicated orchestras throughout the state of Indiana, including the Kokomo Symphony and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.

His conducting teachers include Leonard Atherton at Ball State University, Kenneth Kiesler at the Conductor’s Retreat in Maine, and Dr. Joseph Principe at the S.S.M.A. in Siena, Italy. He also studied privately with Claude Monteux (son of legendary conductor Pierre Monteux) and Kirk Trevor, for whom Dr. Stanek was cover conductor for the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra.

Stanek lives in Keizer, Oregon, with his wife, Emily, and son, Christopher. When not involved in music, he enjoys reading, film, and trips to the coast with his family.
